Tourist Attention

Catalonia is a country that enjoys one of the lowest crime rate levels in europe. Nevertheless, the police of the Government of Catalonia, The Mossos d'Esquadra who are responsible for protecting citizens and traffic control in part of Catalonia, would like to offer you some advice to make of your stay with us more agreeable and safe.

In Barcelona, if you have been the victim of a crime, need medical or psychological help, or need temporary documents in the event of loss of the originals you can go to Tourist Attention at the Ramblas 43 which is open 24 hours.
In the hotel

Always keep your baggage in full view when arriving at or leaving your hotel especially if you travel by coach. When sleeping, shut windows and balconies. when you leave your room, close the windows and lock the door. Use the safety deposit boxes available in the hotel to store your valuables and only take them out when they are to be used. Always leave the key to the room at the hotel reception desk.

On the beach

Do not take any valuables to the beach with you; take only the amount of money you will need. Keep your personal possessions in view while bathing.

In the street or marketplace

Always carry identification papers. Carry bags and cameras around the neck in front of you. Avoid carrying them behind. Carry wallets in inside pockets, in handbags, or in zip-closed waist wallets. Do not carry more money than necessary, do not flash your money when making a payment, and do not join in any street games you hhave make bets. they are a fraud.

In your vehicle

Always lock your vehicle no matter how short your absence could be. When driving on the highway or motorway, do not stop in unauthorised areas and take precautions if another vehicle signals you to stop or pull over. Always try to use parking areas with surveillance. Do not leave any valuables, credit cards or important documents in full view inside your vehicle.

When out at night

Always carry identification and a card with the address of the hotel where you are staying. Do not spend the night in public places or on the beach.

In the event that you are a victim of a crime

Memorise as many details as possible, do not touch anything, notify the Mossos d'Esquadra (Police) and follow their instructions. When reporting a crime, present a personal identification document and, if possible, proof of purchase of the stolen objects.

On the road

Remember that use of safety belts and helmets is mandatory on all roads, both inside and outside towns. Observe the speed limit and adjust your speed to traffic conditions. In the event of an accident or breakdown, indicate the location of your vehicle, stay in a safe place and call the appropriate number (088 or 112).
